Numerical investigation of particle motion at the steel—slag interface in continuous casting using VOF method and dynamic overset grids

Abstract The capillary interactions are prominent for a micro-sized particle at the steel—slag interface. In this study, dynamics of spherical interacting with interface is numerically investigated using volume fluid method in combination overset grid technique to account motion. simulations have shown particle’s separation process and successfully captured formation continuous evolution meniscus course A sensitivity analysis on effect different physical parameters steel—slag—particle system also conducted. result indicates that wettability slag phase main factor affecting behavior (trapped or fully separated into slag). Higher interfacial tension smaller size can speed up motion but less equilibrium position staying comparison, density shows minor influence when dominated by effect. By taking forces particle, study provides more accurate simulation vicinity enables further investigation complex situations.
